The Director of Food Services, who is in charge of the Federal Lunch Program, manages the school cafeteria. This program provides hot lunches for students, faculty, and staff. The Nutrition Group through the Uniontown School District handles the breakfast and lunch program. The meals are nutritionally balanced, and students select a minimum of three or the five items provided for lunch.
Federal School Lunch Program
The Federal School Lunch Program provides lunches for students whose parents qualify within the income guidelines provided by the government. Students may qualify for either free or reduced lunches. The forms for the program are updated annually or as family needs change.
Transportation Services
The public school district in which the student resides provides all buses utilized by our school for daily transportation. Students are expected to follow the transportation rules of the respective school districts. Disciplinary matters involving students on the bus are brought to the attention of our principal by the school district and/or bus driver, and action is taken according to the school districts policy.
Special Services
Remedial math or language arts instruction is available to qualified students who have parental permission. Miss Amy Westover, employed by the Intermediate Unit, provides the instruction. She instructs small groups of students, which provides the opportunity for individualized instruction to develop and enhance math and/or language arts skills.
Speech therapy is also available to qualified students who have parental permission. Mrs. Carol Gudac, employed by the Intermediate Unit, provides this service. She works with students on an individual basis. Another service that is provided by Mrs. Gudac is English as a second language. A student must qualify for speech therapy to also receive this service.
Act 89 provides counseling, remedial math and language arts, guidance, speech, psychological testing, and drug-free programs through the Intermediate Unit.
Acts 90 and 195 provide the students with some secular textbooks and materials necessary for their educational needs.
The Intermediate Unit employs Miss Janelle Buchheit, guidance counselor. She provides the counseling to students on a part time basis. Currently, she is at St. Marys (Nativity) two full days a week. Miss Buchheit is a certified counselor in Crisis, Individual, and Group Counseling. The school also has an Elementary Student Assistance Program (ESAP) consisting of trained staff members.
The individual classroom teacher refers students to Miss Buchheit. The guidance counselor then sends a permission letter to the parents. If the parents agree to counseling, a schedule is arranged with the student. The student meets with the guidance counselor and receives the help necessary to continue on in a healthy life style. Teachers may also refer students to the ESAP Team if behavioral and/or academic difficulties are observed in students.
